About JCIA

The oldest insurance agency in Jamaica — and the only co-operative.

Born from a need to give Co-operative Societies and their members high-quality general insurance, JCIA (formerly NUCS-CIS) opened its doors in 1983 and was registered as an insurance agency in 1985. Today we’re owned by Credit Union members of the Co-operative Credit Union League and other co-operatives via the National Union of Co-operatives Societies — and we still operate by the principle that brought us here: service above profit.

How quickly do I need to report a claim?

Most claims must be notified within days of the incident. For motor claims, please have ready: your motor vehicle details / certificate, driver's licence, certificate of fitness, and any photos of the accident. Notify us as soon as possible by phone, email, or via the Claims page.

Who can buy insurance from JCIA — do I have to be a credit union member?

No. While JCIA was formed to serve the Co-operative Movement of Jamaica, our products are available to the wider insuring public. Credit union and co-operative members do qualify for member rates on certain group products.

How do I pay my premium?

Five options: online via our secure portal (Visa / Mastercard); direct deposit to our Sagicor Bank account; Electronic Funds Transfer; cheque; or in-branch payment. Premium financing is also available, subject to terms.

Can I get cover if I've had an accident in the last three years?

Yes — but for a motor quote we will need a claim letter from your previous insurer for the final quote. We can provide a preliminary quote first while that letter is being obtained.

Which underwriters do you place business with?

We place cover with Jamaica's leading underwriters: Sagicor, BCIC, Guardian, General, Key, and Advantage. As an independent agency, we shop your risk across the market.
